PGMS completes its first live field demonstration

HydroFoamer has completed the first live field demonstration of the Pipeline Geometry Measurement System (PGMS).

For the first time, the complete measurement workflow ran live in the field through a native iPad application. The demonstration follows the process from establishing the reference pipe through to guided pipe insertion and continuous installation feedback.

Measuring installation as it happens

During the field demonstration, PGMS measured:

  • Pipe radius
  • Angular deflection
  • Centreline deviation
  • Live total-station positioning using automatic target recognition

The measurements were produced in real time and at sub-millimetre precision. This gives the installation team immediate feedback while the pipe is being positioned, rather than relying only on checks performed after installation.

From reference pipe to guided insertion

The demonstration shows how PGMS establishes a measured reference, tracks the geometry of the pipe and supports guided insertion of the next pipe section. Position and alignment can therefore be checked continuously as installation progresses.

The objective is larger than replacing manual measurement. PGMS is intended to make pipeline installation digitally measurable and verifiable, creating an auditable record of what was installed in the field.

Part of the HAPI platform

PGMS forms part of HydroFoamer’s HAPI digital construction platform for precision pipeline installation. By connecting field measurement with a controlled installation process, the system establishes a foundation for repeatable execution, digital verification and future automation.
